Factories Act 1955

Amended by the Safety in Industry Act 1980. Partly repealed by the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 1989 and through S.I. No. 237 of 1989, S.I. No. 357 of 1995 and S.I. No. 138 of 2001.

Qualifications (Education and Training) Act 1999

The Qualifications (Education and Training) Act 1999 set out for the first time in legislation, a central role for learners within a national context of lifelong learning. Learners’ rights and entitlements in relation to inclusion, participation and recognition of learning how-so-ever achieved, reflect a significant shift of emphasis towards the individual, and away from the institutional.

Safety in Industry Act 1980

Amends the Factories Act 1955. Act partly repealed by the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 1989 and through S.I. No. 237 of 1989 and S.I. No. 357 of 1995.

From I November 2007, Sections 28 and 29 repealed through the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 Repeals)(Commencement) Order 2007 (S.I. No. 300 of 2007) and replaced by certain provisions of Chapter 2 (Use of Work Equipment) of Part 2 of S.I. No. 299 of 2007.

Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Act 2005

The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 came into operation on 1 September 2005, except the provisions of section 4(2), other than as that subsection applies to the repeal of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 1989.

General Application Regulations 2007

These Regulations were signed by Tony Killeen, Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, on 14 June 2007 and they came into operation on 1 November 2007.

Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application)(Amendment) Regulations 2007 (S.I. No. 732 of 2007)

These Regulations, which amended S.I. No. 299 of 2007, were signed by Billy Kelleher, Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, on 5 November 2007 and they came into operation on 12 November 2007.

Construction Regulations 2006

These Regulations were signed by the Minister on 28 September 2006 and came into operation from 6 November 2006.

The purpose of the Regulations is to prescribe the main requirements for the protection of the safety, health and welfare of persons working on construction sites and to give further effect to Council Directive 92/57/EEC on the minimum safety and health requirements at temporary or mobile construction sites.

Quarry Regulations 2008

These Regulations were signed by Billy Kelleher, Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, on 14 February 2008 and came into operation on 1 May 2008, other than Regulations 13(c), 16(b) and Schedule 1, which come into operation on 1 November 2009.

The Regulations set out requirements with respect to safety, health and welfare in quarries, as defined in Regulation 3, and replace a range of provisions formerly applied in the Mines and Quarries Act, 1965 and in various Regulations made under that Act.
